HostGator Now Charging Sales Tax

Just got an extremely well written e-mail from the founder of HostGator.com, Brent Oxley, last night that informed me they will not be charging me sales tax on my hosting accounts because I live in Texas. Apparently they Texas Comptroller came down on them and fined them with $500,000 in unpaid sales tax.

First, I want to say… No problem. HostGator provides a great hosting service and to be honest we as affiliates need to stop complaining about prices. We make a ton of money and a 8.25% increase on a $9.95 per month charge is not going to break our business.

Second, I appreciate the candidness in the e-mail. I rarely read every word of an e-mail, but this one was really funny and packed with good info.

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know that if you are in Texas and you choose HostGator, they will be charging you sales tax as they should.

To HostGator.com, keep on trucking and providing an awesome service.
