SEO Tips – Increase Traffic With Keyword Rich Image Names

Today’s tip is a great one. I’ve been paying close attention to my referral stats lately and have noticed a huge influx of traffic coming from Google image search referrals. Here’s how I did it and how you can too!

In the past, I really paid no attention to how I named images. Whatever my camera named it or whatever photoshop kicked out with the slices is what I went with. Earlier this year, I changed that habit and started spending some time naming my images properly.

For example, an old image I had was named DCI20056.jpg. This is what my camera named it, so I went with it. I have since named that file to something like hybrid_golf_clubs_1.jpg. Also, I’ve added the alt tag to the images as well and made that keyword rich.

Now what happens is google-bot comes by and is able to digest and categorize what that image is.

Those two simple changes have increased my traffic 25-50% because I’m now getting traffic from Google image search. By simply including my keywords in my image names, Google is picking those up and giving them priority over poorly named images.
